Liberty Christian School “Equipping in heart and deed”

Liberty Christian School was founded in January of 2003 to meet the educational needs of the girls in the Shadow of His Wings Orphanage. Most of the girls had never been given the opportunity to study at all. Therefore, ten to twelve year olds need to start in first or second grade. In any other school setting, it is not feasible for these ages to sit in those grades. Virtually all of the girls are now readers, breaking the cycle of illiteracy that is so very pervasive in this country.

For the school year of 2007 and into 2008 the girls were moved into a new building - less expensive for the Project (it was a "fixer-upper") and closer to the girls' Home.  The girls were able to walk to school each day and even have a nice yard in which to play for recess.  Those in charge of the school, Raul & Carina Aguilar, lived downstairs in the building with their three children.  This provided a home for them as well  as added security for the school.

In 2006, four of our girls completed the elementary grades (grade 6) and were ready to enter Middle School (grades 7-9).  In order to meet this need, the Aguilar family went to great lengths to get the government approval to have the middle school grades in the school as well.  The Lord blessed and they were successful.  Some of the girls are currently taking two grades per year to catch up to the "normal" grade for their age group.  What a smart and determined group of young ladies we have!

The girls meet the mayor and get a
warm welcome to Monjas.
